Atlas Observer

Methodology

Atlas Observer applies an editorial method based on source identification, the distinction between facts and interpretations, the traceability of reasoning, and the explicit acknowledgement of uncertainty.

Source selection

Each analysis is based on documentary research that prioritises public, identifiable and verifiable sources.

Sources may include:

  • international institutions;
  • central banks;
  • public administrations;
  • statistical agencies;
  • multilateral organisations;
  • academic publications;
  • corporate reports;
  • regulatory documents;
  • professional organisations;
  • recognised research institutions.

When several sources address the same subject, they are compared in order to limit errors, selection bias and isolated interpretations.

Information hierarchy

Publications distinguish four levels:

Established facts

Documented information attributable to identified sources.

Data

Quantitative indicators, statistical series, official documents or measurable elements available at the date of publication.

Analysis

A structured interpretation of facts and data formulated by Atlas Observer.

Scenarios

Possible developments considered when several trajectories remain plausible.

Scenarios do not constitute certain predictions or recommendations.

Editorial process

Before publication, each analysis is, whenever possible, subject to:

  • verification of the main sources;
  • internal consistency review;
  • a clear distinction between fact and interpretation;
  • verification of dates and references;
  • editorial review;
  • review of wording and levels of certainty.

Dating and updates

Each publication is dated.

When an analysis is materially revised, its update date must be displayed.

Significant corrections must remain traceable through the existing editorial versioning system.

Permanent principles

Atlas Observer applies the following principles:

  • editorial independence;
  • institutional neutrality;
  • objectivity;
  • methodological rigour;
  • source transparency;
  • distinction between information and analysis;
  • acknowledgement of limitations;
  • correction of identified errors.

Limitations

Every analysis depends on the information available at the time of publication.

Some data may be incomplete, provisional, revised or disputed.

When uncertainty is material, it must be explicitly stated.

No recommendation

Atlas Observer publications are analytical in nature.

They do not constitute:

  • policy recommendations;
  • investment recommendations;
  • legal advice;
  • financial advice;
  • operational instructions.
